Star Legacy Storydev Kickoff!
Thank you all for your numerous inquiries and offers for assistance. We are working with several artists and story writers for our final selection, and dev work on characters Ambrose and Anastasia is underway.
In other news, the TG LAN party is less than one month away. Remember, February 15th in Dublin, CA is where the magic is at! Show up and get ready for some consolin’ and gamin’ goodness.
Steef is magical, by the way.

1 commentWelcome to 2008 - Year of the de Novo
Welcome to 2008: Year of the de Novo. For those unaware of TeamTG tradition, the new year marks the naming of that coming year. From 1994, the founding of TeamTG, we inserted the year’s name in the remark statements of our programming code as a general reference to its build.
For instance, in our forever-ongoing Trinity project, we state that our codebase from 2002 is “YOT Tribes” and 2004 “YOT Nu.” To bring you newcomers up to speed, here are the names for each of the past years for the last 13 years, as well as this year’s name:
- 1994 - Year of the Force
- This year marked the release of our QUEST series, namely Spy Quest volumes I through III. These games were the precursor to our planned United Force series
- 1995 - Year of the Mayants
- Debrys Force was released this year, taking place on the planets of Debrys and Mayantis 10. Though the QUEST series occurs on the Mayantian planets, Debrys Force was the first RPG to explore both Mayantis, Forentus and Debrys.
- 1996 - Year of the Rift
- Cygnus Rift, a black hole in the Mayantian system, was a failed space shooter.
- 1997 - Year of the Apogee
- The Apogee is the flag airship in Harrier’s defensive Continental fleet. The storyline involving this new fleet was drafted near New Years, 1997.
- 1998 - Year of the Snow
- With slow storyline development, the dev crew hacked Phantasy Star III using the game genie and discovered an equipable buckle called “Snow” that didn’t make it into the final game.
- 1999 - Year of the Everglades
- The Mayantian story evolves to add to further dimensions to the Continental Everglades defensive army. The Everglades army was later removed from the story’s canon.
- 2000 - Year of the Legacy
- Spy Quest Legacy, a project undertaken as a throwback to TeamTG’s origins, begins development. The game is an advanced form of the original Spy Quest strategy game, with clone labs and science stations to develop new technologies. With support for up to 100 hex territories, this game added varied landscape that would have land effect on technological and military effectiveness. Such landscapes included floating islands, space, oceans, deserts, and plains. Additionally, the “Legacy” series was originally developed as a spin off of the Quest series by Excalibur, with the first game being Star Legacy.
- 2001 - Year of the Legeria
- Legend, the main antagonist in the Quest series, is rewritten to be one of the Enforcers of good in the Continental army. Since Legend has always been the developer’s favorite character, the solar system was officially named Legeria after him.
- 2002 - Year of the Tribes
- While TeamTG had always had video gaming and LAN parties, it officially struck the organization as a core pillar during this year. With the online game Tribes bringing in hordes of new members, a quick LAN party base developed and TG evolved from a programming group to a gaming group.
- 2003 - Year of the Auroras
- During this year, TeamTG’s leadership was split across the Tribes II military leadership while OmniRune was knees deep in college.
- 2004 - Year of the Nu
- In a thinly-veiled attempt to duplicate TeamTG in a college environment, OmniRune starts the Nu Gamma Delta fraternity as a platform to recruit people into a co-ed social fraternity and later absorb them into the TeamTG member populace. We successfully had two cross over: Nitehawk (later banished) and BT14.
- 2005 - Year of the Passage
- OmniRune finally graduates college and starts his post-college life. TeamTG is slow around this time while the transitions occur for many of its members: the members who joined during YOT Tribes are now graduating high school and moving to college, and those at OmniRune’s age bracket were leaving college to go to their first post-school jobs.
- 2006 - Year of the Return
- Led by OmniRune, DeathMage, StormMage and Mais, they regrouped the old TeamTG membership and re-established the infamous TG chatroom on an anime IRC server. Unfortunately, the once-busy forums were lost in a database hack and were left closed. After several months, the new TG leadership was able to reestablish their cyber presence.
- 2007 - Year of the Guardians
- Back in complete swing, the Guardians (later simply known as TeamTG) competes in Tribes Vengeance and grows their membership. After a several year hiatus, they also hold two LAN parties: a Winter and Summer LAN, reuniting some old members and mixing in new ones. This year was TeamTG’s new Golden Age.
- 2008 - Year of the de Novo
- This is 2008, YOT de Novo. In continuance with the success of 2007, we plan to make TeamTG thrive in a new competitive game to establish and even stronger online identity and gamer base.
There you have it! Everyone, keep recruiting and keep your chin up for a great 2008!
