The Guardians laser tag group is a free club in California’s Central Valley. We are headquartered in Tracy, California, but easily accessible for residents of Mountain House, Livermore, Dublin, Pleasanton, Stockton and Manteca. We use LazerTag brand gear, which can be purchased from Toys-R-Us, Target or Amazon.com. Our primary inventory includes the Phoenix LTX Pistols, the LTTO Tag Master Blaster (TMB), and the LTTO Deluxe tagger.

MEMBERSHIP RULES

We welcome players aged 16 or older who have an interest in playing laser tag with a tactical mindset. With loaner equipment available for new players, you simply need to show up for a fun-filled day of conquest. In order to promote teamwork and maintain harmony, the following rules have been established:

  1. NO PHYSICAL CONTACT. This is a no-contact sport. The laser guns nor players should never come into physical contact with one another. Thus, players should not rush or jump onto other players.
  2. NO CHEATING. This includes covering your sensor dome or camping near a respawn zone.
  3. NO MODS. Our games are played with Stock Equipment and thus only scopes are allowed to be added to the laser guns.
  4. OBEY AUTHORITY. In the event that an authority figure appears, including police officers or park rangers, immediately lay down your laser guns and other equipment and stay in your present position. Allow them to approach you; do not walk toward them!
  5. EQUIPMENT FAILURE MEANS DISQUALIFICATION. If your gun malfunctions or does not work, you must sit out during the presently played game while attempting to fix / replace batteries / restore functionality.
  6. DO NOT POINT GUNS AT NON-PLAYERS OR TEASE. Non-players should not be used as barriers or mocked in any way. A pistol being pointed at a non-player could cause alarm.
  7. BRING YOUR OWN REFRESHMENTS. This is a strenuous sport.
  8. REMEMBER THE LASER TAG CREED:
    • Laser Tag is a non-contact sport.
    • All players are created equal.
    • Subterfuge is unacceptable.
    • Exit the play area the same as I enter it.
    • Respect authority.
    • The dome is my target, not the player.
    • Always check my equipment.
    • Good sportsmanship is the key to fun.

WHEN AND WHERE DO WE PLAY?

We play on a rather frequent basis! For our larger games, they are placed onto our event calendar (see bottom of page). For non-planned, ad-hoc games, we typically coordinate via cell phone text messages or e-mail. Let your interest be known and we’ll get you into our next game!

Our play field of choice is in Tracy, California, at the Tracy Sports Complex and we begin our games at or just after sunset. Bring a couple of bucks; we typically like to go out for pizza after an intense game!

NEW PLAYER TIPS

1 – Use your shields. New players tend to forget this and take a lot more damage than they have to when an opponent finds them unexpectedly — just raise shields and backtrack to a safe place, then you can control the engagement better by choosing how when and where to meet your opponent. Use your shield wisely, though since you do have a limited amount of shields each game.

2 – “Shoot and Scoot” — if your opponent knows where you are, pop off a couple quick tags at him and then duck around a corner and scoot away — he will probably first dive for cover and then try to chase you, at which time you can land a couple more unanswered tags as he comes around the corner after you. Do this a few times in a game and you are almost certain to win!

3 – Work together as a team — you are much more effective when coordinating your actions against the opposing team than you would be as just a bunch of single players each doing their own thing.

4 – Communicate silently using hand signals. Shouting, “Go around the back of the shed!” gives away your position and tells the opponent what to look out for. Instead, just point to your teammate while making eye contact, then point to the shed and make a “go around” motion to show him what he needs to do.

5 – Don’t bunch together — it makes it easy for an opponent to land tags on all of you at once. Try to stay about 20 feet apart from one another.

6 – Try to get your opponent in crossfire. If tags are coming at him from two different directions, he can’t hide from both of them at once. A good way to set this up is to raise shields and PRETEND to engage the opponent in order to draw his attention, but actually be moving into a position to get the opponent into a cross-fire while a hidden team-mate of yours lands tags on the opponent. The opponent will THINK it is you doing the tagging and won’t realize he’s being set up into a crossfire situation. He will probably be so focused on you he never notices your teammate.

7 – “Bait the Trap” — raise shields and PRETEND to engage an opponent and then run away, drawing the opponent after you into an area that your hidden team-mate has covered. Your teammate needs to hold fire just long enough for the opponent to be caught completely out in the open with no way to hide from both of you at once. Once he’s trying to take cover against your teammate, you lower shields and engage him from a crossfire position.
